The Story of the Rooster Carafe
The rooster carafe tradition comes from Renaissance Florence, when Giuliano de' Medici, brother of Lorenzo the Magnificent, was saved from assassins by roosters and chickens crowing in the night. The assassins were caught, and Giuliano lived. From that moment, Italian ceramic artists created rooster carafes to commemorate the event.
Today, these carafes are gifted as housewarming presents to bring good luck and protection to the home.
