The Story Behind This Plate:
In the golden age of Italian road travel, Autogrill locations weren't just rest stops—they were destinations. The Aglio Est location became famous for serving authentic Tuscan specialties to travelers journeying through the beautiful Mugello region. This commemorative plate honors that culinary tradition with a whimsical regional food-themed illustration: a pink maialetto (little pig) proudly displayed on a golden serving platter, surrounded by a charming folk art border of olives and berries.
De Simone's Artistry:
Originally hand-painted by Giovanni De Simone and then reproduced using traditional serigraphy (screen printing), this plate showcases the artist's distinctive naïve, whimsical style. The soft pastel colors (pink, sage green, golden yellow) and playful details perfectly capture the warmth and joy of Italian highway culture.
